Whether you like it or not, the electric vehicle wave is coming. With many automakers committing to a zero-emissions future – Chevy included – we’re beginning to see many of the fan favorite cars, trucks and SUVs swapping gas tanks for battery packs. In the Chevy lineup, the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV (an SUV-like version of the smaller Bolt) are already available, but there are a few new EVs coming to the market, including electrified versions of the popular Chevy Equinox, Chevy Blazer and Chevy Silverado pickup.
We’ve already taken a closer look at the all-new Chevy Silverado EV on the Glenn Polk Auto blog, but today we shift our focus to the two new Chevy SUV EVs – the Equinox and Blazer. With electrifying looks, expansive driving ranges and quick charging times, it’s easy to see that the EV versions of these well-known utility vehicles are just as capable (if not more capable) than their gas-powered varieties.
Although the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV picks up design cues from the traditional, gas-powered version of the SUV, the EV has a unique look that really sets it apart. That includes a closed grille and a front LED light bar that deliver a futuristic vibe. On the outside, you can choose between 9 vibrant paint colors.
Built on the innovative Ultium platform, the Equinox EV maximizes driving range, with the ability to travel as far as 300 miles on a single charge. And when you need to recharge, a public DC fast charger can give you 70 miles in as little as 10 minutes, or 34 miles of range per hour with a home charger.
In terms of performance, the Equinox EV manages to clock in a 0 to 60 time of just six seconds with e-AWD. And with 290 horsepower available with the e-AWD system, it’s clear that the Equinox balances that efficiency with plenty of power. You can even tow up to 1,500 pounds off the hitch of the EV SUV.
Similar to the Equinox EV, the Blazer EV offers up the complete package with a healthy balance of style, performance and technology. The electrified SUV also comes with a variety of options, giving you control and flexibility when it comes to charging speeds, driving range and performance. For instance, the Blazer EV offers up a Wide Open Watts (WOW) mode that can take the SUV from 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds. In WOW mode, the Blazer EV also maximizes its total output, with the ability to achieve 557 horsepower.
As mentioned, the driving range of the Blazer EV depends on the configuration you opt for. But regardless of setup, you’ll get anywhere from 247 to 320 miles through a combination of the Ultium battery platform and different systems that help to convert the vehicles kinetic energy into battery power that can be stored for later, allowing you to squeeze even more miles out of every charge.
