Which New Buick SUVs Offer Self-Driving Driver Assistance Technology?

Although we’re likely still a few decades away from the flying cars of the future, the reality of self-driving cars is well within reach. Those following news from General Motors have likely seen that many of the automotive giant’s brands are beginning to introduce self-driving capabilities to many of their offerings. GM has officially dubbed their self-driving system “Super Cruise” and it’s a feature that’s making its way into many of the EVs with the Chevy bowtie, including the electric Bolt, Equinox and Silverado.

Not surprisingly, this revolutionary driver assistance technology is also finding its way into several more of the GM brands, and one of the next to get outfitted with Super Cruise is the premium Buick brands.

2024 Buick Envision Super Cruise Technology

There are a lot of exciting changes coming to the Buick lineup for the 2024 model year. In addition to a completely new SUV model – a coupe-like SUV called the “Envista” – the Equinox is getting a complete overhaul complete with the new Buick logo added proudly to the hood of the crossover. And with this redesign comes the announcement that the Envision will be the first to offer the Super Cruise tech.

As of right now, there have not been any announcements of the Encore or Enclave getting the hands-free driving technology. Full details have yet to be released for the aforementioned Envista offering, but for the time being, there has not been mention from Buick on whether or not it will get Super Cruise.

Benefits of the Buick Super Cruise Hands-Free Driving Tech

While the Super Cruise system continues to be refined and enhanced, at the moment, the driver assistance technology allows drivers to travel completely hands free on over 400,000 miles of select roads stretching across the U.S. and Canada. To clarify, it is not currently equipped to take you through any and every city or road. The hands-free mode is more suited for longer stretches of highway driving.

It works through a combination of real-time cameras, sensors, GPS and map data to detect curves, and leverages Adaptive Cruise Control to control acceleration and braking to maintain a driver-selected gap between the car ahead. With the ability to pinpoint your position within three feet, the highly accurate sensors help to ensure that your car stays on the road and safe from other drivers or obstructions.
