- TurboMax: 310 horsepower, 430 lb-ft of best-in-class standard torque, available maximum towing capacity of up to 9,500 pounds.
- 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8: 355 horsepower, 383 lb-ft of best-in-class standard torque, available maximum towing capacity of up to 9,500 pounds.
- 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8: 420 horsepower, 460 lb-ft of best-in-class standard torque, available maximum towing capacity of up to 13,100 pounds.
- 3.0-liter Turbo Diesel: 305 horsepower, 495 lb-ft of best-in-class standard torque, available maximum towing capacity of up to 13,300 pounds.
Maximum Towing Capacity by Trim Level
While it’s clear that the turbo diesel engine option is the strongest of the four in the towing department, it’s important to note that not all four engines are available in every trim level. Certain trim levels come with different standard engines and offer up additional engines as available upgrades. Here are the engines you’ll find with each trim level of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500, as well as the max towing capacity.
- Pro: Comes standard with the TurboMax. Available with the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8. Max towing: 9,500 pounds.

- SLT: Comes standard with the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8. Available with the 6.2-liter V8 and 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel. Max towing: 13,300 pounds.
- AT4: Comes standard with the 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel. Available with the 6.2-liter V8. Max towing: 13,300 pounds.
- Denali: Comes standard with the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8. Available with the 6.2-liter V8 and 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel. Max towing: 13,300 pounds.
- AT4X: Comes standard with the 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel. Available with the 6.2-liter V8. Max towing: 13,300 pounds.
- Denali Ultimate: Comes standard with the 6.2-liter V8. Available with the 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel. Max towing: 13,300 pounds.
