The electric wave is sweeping the automotive industry, and Jeep is poised to ride it. We’ve already seen the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee get outfitted with the electrified 4xe system, but Jeep has plans to double down on the electric technology and to take it one step further. They have announced that there will be four all-electric vehicles available by 2025 – two of which we already have some details on.
The first of the completely electric Jeep models will be the Jeep Recon – a new addition to the Jeep stable. From the limited images we’ve seen so far, the Recon seems to take cues from the Wrangler. Jeep has even said as much, confirming that the Recon is “inspired by the Wrangler.” So as you might expect, it will include a one-touch power top, as well as removable doors and windows.
Performance wise, it will get the 4xe system currently available in the Wrangler, and will carry on the trail-rated capability backed by off-road-friendly features, including the Selec-Terrain traction system, underbody armor as well as tow hooks and off-road tires wrapped around sporty aluminum frames.
While the all-new Recon is built to be rugged, the other upcoming electric Jeep is much more refined. The Jeep Wagoneer S will become an extension of the latest high-end Wagoneer. According to Jeep, the ‘S’ of the new trim level stands for “speed, striking and sexy” – and we can’t argue with that. From what we’ve seen so far, the electrified Wagoneer will feature clean lines for a sleek, premium-feeling exterior.
As you might expect, it’s performance that drives the highlights of the Wagoneer S. Official numbers are still a ways out, but targets are in the range of 600 horsepower, with a 0 to 60 acceleration possible in as few as 3.5 seconds. Given its size, it would be quite the feat for an SUV powered by electricity. Driving range is expected to reach 400 miles on a single charge, helping to make the Wagoneer practical as well.
While Jeep has already shared that they would have four EVs available by 2025, it doesn’t look like we’ll have to wait quite that long to get our hands on the Recon or Wagoneer S. Production of both models is expected to begin in 2024, meaning these will likely drop as 2024 models with a release date falling next year. That said, Jeep will begin taking orders early this year. And that’s where we come into the picture.
