Electric vehicles have swiftly infiltrated nearly every automotive segment, from full-size pickup trucks to luxury SUVs. Not surprisingly, Jeep is along for the ride and is embarking on a bold journey into the electric vehicle (EV) market, planning to launch six new EVs by 2027. This ambitious lineup kicks off with an affordable Renegade model priced under $25,000. However, the spotlight is firmly on the 2024 Jeep Recon EV, an electric SUV engineered for off-road adventures.
The Jeep Recon EV aims to electrify the off-road segment. Inspired by the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid, the Recon EV is a fully electric mid-size SUV boasting four-wheel drive, a power-folding rooftop, and removable doors. This mid-size SUV is expected to be comparable in size to the current Jeep Wrangler or the two-row Grand Cherokee, fitting seamlessly into Jeep's robust SUV family.
Initial images of the Recon EV reveal a vehicle ready for rugged adventures, equipped with a tailgate-mounted spare tire, an illuminated seven-slot front grille, BFGoodrich tires, and seating for five on rubberized flooring. While specific details on driving range, battery size, and power output are yet to be disclosed, the Recon EV's design promises a blend of utility and style.
Though the starting price for the 2024 Recon EV hasn't been officially announced, estimates suggest it will start around $60,000, potentially reaching up to $79,000 with higher trims and options. It’s likely that the Recon EV will follow a trim structure similar to the Wrangler, from the entry-level Sport trim to the high-end Sahara High Altitude model.
The Recon EV will earn Jeep’s Trail Rated badge, a testament to its off-road capabilities. With that in mind, it will likely feature Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction management system, e-lock axles, underbody protection, and tow hooks, ensuring it can conquer the toughest of terrains with confidence.
The production model of the Jeep Recon EV has not yet been unveiled, missing the initial 2023 target. However, according to the Detroit News, a 2024 launch is still on the table. Jeep’s CEO, Antonio Filosa, has indicated that the Recon’s first full year of production will be in 2025.
The all-new, all-electric Jeep Recon EV is poised to be a game-changer in Jeep’s lineup, combining the brand’s legendary off-road prowess with cutting-edge electric technology. As more information becomes available, anticipation for this all-electric adventure vehicle continues to grow. Stay tuned for the latest updates on the Jeep Recon EV and its journey to redefine off-road driving, as well as the availability of the Jeep Recon EV as soon as it becomes available in the Texas area.
