How Many People Can Fit in the Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Since its release exactly 30 years ago, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has quickly risen through the ranks to become one of the top vehicles in its class. And over the last three decades, it has been available exclusively as a two-row, five-passenger vehicle, but that is all set to change for the 2022 model year.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee has gotten a complete overhaul for the 2022 model year, and for the first time since its launch in 1992, the rugged, yet refined SUV is getting a third row. The available option will take the available seating capacity of the Grand Cherokee up to seven – six depending on the seating options.

Those who can do without the added seats will be sure to appreciate that the two-row Grand Cherokee is still an option. Not surprisingly, the five-passenger SUV will be standard. The three-row seat will be available in nearly every trim option with the exception of the Trailhawk, which will be two-row only.

If you opt for the third row, you’ll be pressed with the choice between a bench seat or captains chairs in the second row. While the bench seat gives you space for another body, the captains chairs do provide a bit of extra separation and make access to the third row even easier. Either way, the third row seat comes powered, meaning you can fold down the seatbacks with just the touch of a button.

With all the seats down, the Grand Cherokee offers plenty of space for cargo. In both the two- and three-row options, you’ll find 84.6 cubic feet of space to fit sports gears, suitcases and more. That space is just as plentiful with the third row in use. It offers 17.2 cubic feet of space – the size of a sedan trunk.
