The electric wave is flowing through the market, and we’re excited to share that yet another pickup will be completely electrified. Shortly after news of the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Chevy Silverado EV, General Motors has announced that the GMC Sierra EV will be the next full-size pickup to trade in the fuel tank for a battery pack. While there are several capabilities that we’re excited to spread the word about, let’s start with the driving range and charging times, both of which will set the 2024 model apart.
Similar to the Hummer EV that was announced prior to the new electric Sierra, the 2024 GMC Sierra EV will be powered by the latest Ultium platform – state of the art battery technology that will provide a significant driving range. At a full charge, GM expects that the Sierra EV will offer up a driving range of 400 miles, which matches the 400-mile driving range of the upcoming Chevy Silverado EV.
As we’re still a few months out from the release date of the Sierra EV, the full breakdown of charging times have not been released, but we do know what will be possible when plugged into a public charging station. GM expects that when connected to an 800-volt, 350 kW DC public fast charger, the Sierra will rack up 100 miles – a quarter of the full driving range – in approximately 10 minutes.
In addition to the driving range and charging times, the Sierra EV will be set apart by a serious amount of power, to the tune of 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque. The outputs are even greater than the numbers produced by the gas-powered Sierra, which should quickly address concerns about the electric variety falling short of the more traditional pickup. With plenty of spin, the EV also gets a new first – it is now being measured on its 0 to 60 speed. The pickup can reach highway speeds in just 4.5 seconds.
General Motors has announced that the GMC Sierra EV will be unleashed in the beginning of 2024, and will be released as a 2024 model. That means we’re just about a year out from the 2024 GMC Sierra EV release date. Orders have already begun, so if you’re in the Texas area and are ready to take advantage of the 400-mile driving range or superior charging times, get in touch with us here at Glenn Polk Auto.
