One of the biggest changes for the 2023 model year is the retirement of the 6.2-liter V8 engine and six-speed transmission that combined to power the Super Duty for several years. Taking over is a high-output 7.3-liter V8 that is bolted to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The added engine size and four extra gears assist with more power, a smoother drive and extra mpgs in the efficiency department.

While the gas-powered engine is certainly impressive, if it’s the class-leading numbers in the towing, power and payload categories, allow us to direct your attention to the 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8. When firing on all eight cylinders, it’s the diesel powertrain that delivers the 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque – both of which contribute to the 30,000-pound towing capacity and 7,100-pound payload rating. Move to a gooseneck towing operation and you’re looking at a 40,000-pound capacity.

The upgraded engines are just the start. Inside, the cabin has been completely redesigned with an 8-inch touchscreen built into the center console in the entry-level XL trim. Move up to the higher-level trims and you’ll get another four inches added to the screen. The instrument panel also goes fully digital on the higher-end trims for a bright, modern look. Inside, the cabin also offers up max-recline seats from the F-150, as well as an available 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system for more immersive sound.
