There are seven available trims of the Ram 1500 that start with the entry level Limited and rise through the ranks with the Limited Longhorn, Laramie, Big Horn, Tradesman and Rebel – all names that have become synonymous with the 1500. In somewhat of its own league is the TRX, an off-road-dominating powerhouse that achieves 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque with its supercharged HEMI V8.

Minus the V8, which is available exclusively in the TRX, the Ram 1500 has four engine options that are spread throughout the remaining six trims. There are two V8 engines and a duo of V6 engines to choose from – one of which is a 3.0-liter Ecodiesel that ramps up torque to an astounding 650 lb-ft while still delivering great efficiency.

With the TRX-exclusive V8 out of the question, the 480 lb-ft of torque from the diesel engine is where the powertrains peak. It’s enough spin to give the engine a 12,560-pound towing capacity, which falls just shy of the 12,750-pound capacity of the 5.7-liter HEMI V8, which uses an eTorque system to give it a slight edge over the diesel. But regardless of which option you choose, performance comes standard.

On the inside, the options continue, with nearly endless bells and whistles that can help you to ramp up comfort, convenience, storage, safety and more. There are also plenty of features that make driving a truck even easier, including trailer sway control, a 360-degree surround view camera and a trailer reverse steering control system that allows you to back up using a knob while the truck takes the wheel.
