Inside, the Expedition offers seats for as many as eight, but it all depends on whether you opt for the second-row bench or captain’s chairs. The latter takes the seat total down to seven but offers a bit more space and even easier accessibility to the third row. Either way, there is an abundance of legroom in all three rows, making even the longer trips comfortable for everyone that’s along for the ride.

As you would expect, cargo capacity is also plentiful whether the seats are occupied or not. Behind the first row, there is 104.6 cubic feet of space with the second and third rows folded down. It gives the Expedition about the same amount of space as a minivan, which makes it a great vehicle for those who regularly need to haul larger items. Even with all seats in use, the Expedition manages to fit as much as 19.3 cubic feet of cargo behind the third row, which is more than enough for several suitcases, sports gear and whatever else you’re looking to bring with you on your travels.

With 10 trim options, there is an Expedition for any expedition – including those that go off the beaten path. New for the 2022 model year is the off-road-capable Timberline trim, which comes equipped with a modified suspension system and a 10.6-inch, best-in-class ground clearance that allows it to clear whatever lies ahead. The Timberline also comes with Trail Control technology, four-wheel drive and a high-output engine that cracks out 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque for extra capability.

In addition to the Timberline, you’ll find both entry-level and higher-end trims that include fan favorites such as the XL STX, XLT, Limited, King Ranch and Platinum – many of which offer an upgraded MAX variation with a few additional bells and whistles as well as more space for seating and cargo.
